Here in Connemara the image of the Good Shepherd comes very easily to us as we are surrounded by sheep on all sides although we hesitate to identify ourselves with these silly but lovable creatures. Nevertheless, we would do well to compare the traits we have in common with our woolly brethren. For example; we follow the herd: we panic easily and rush headlong without thinking: we cannot defend ourselves when we are attacked by inner or outer enemies and we need to be guided and looked after.
